Artist Statement

Welcome to my website.
I am a contemporary Australian artist who specializes in large scale figurative drawing.
My studio is on the edge of Lake Macquarie.
Life drawing has always been at the core of my practice the figure dominating my ‘oeuvre ‘
My current body of work employs potent, dynamic figures frozen or ‘Suspended’ in motion and time, which challenge and reposition the passive plasticity of women historically represented in Western art whilst assimilating issues in the world around me.

I employ a range of research methods including recording acrobatic performance through photography, often editing with Photoshop.
The mediums pastel, watercolor and charcoal are often utilized to produce multi layered works on paper attempting to capture fluidity, form, drama and time.
Artemesia Gentilleschi, Picasso, Kathe Kollwitz, Paula Rego, Wendy Sharpe and Chris Orchard have been influential in my art making approaches.
Selected finalist exhibitions include the prestigious Adelaide Perry Drawing Prize ,Jacaranda Drawing Prize, Kennedy Prize, Sue McCrea Drawing prize , and the 2021 and 2022 National Capital Art Prize whilst awarded The Lake Mac Artist and Creator for 2021.
During 2022 I was selected in the Exploration 22 exhibition at Flinders Lane Gallery, and a finalist in the Blackstone Works on Paper Prize. I am currently exhibiting 'Suspended' my first solo show in Newcastle
NSW.
